The Great Elk hunt of 2009

So, the much anticipated elk hunt finally came. The camping was great and the company was even better. One day I think we had 13 people and 6 dogs in camp. Some of us were up there for 8 days. We had a couple of really really cold days and nights. As you can see by the slide show, we even had some snow. The night after it snowed, I think the temperature must have been in the low 20's. everything was frozen in the morning, even the water in the bottom of the ice chests and the cooking oil. Isaiah was a trooper. He just loves to camp and be out doors. We ended up filling 3 of our 4 tags. Rob got the big one, Kevin got the young one and Bruce and Bob got the little yearling bull. We now have some really great meat in our freezers. On the second to the last day, Lois, Isaiah, Diego and Koko wnet for a walk. We went out about a quarter of a mile and headed back. We were just wandering in the woods and following the dogs. We got back within sight of the camp and Diego took off for camp. Koko was out ahead of us and we thought she went to camp too. When Isaiah and I got back a couple of minutes later, we asked Kevin if the dogs had come into camp. He said Diego had come back but not Koko. We immediatly went out to search for her. We called and called and she didn't come. Then we got in the buggy and drove all around where she might have gone. We spent the next several hours, until it got too dark to see anymore, searching for her. When we couldn't find her, we decided to leave the generator running all night with the lights in the camp on so that if she came back she would not miss it. It was the coldest night, she never showed up. We miss you Koko. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and concern.

I'm so sorry about your puppy mom. I know you loved Koko so much. We all did. She was a good dog. But she is OK. I know Heavenly Father doesn't put these wonderful creations on His earth to be His childrens companions in life if we can never see them again. We will see her again. And she will be so happy to see you.
