I'm going to brag....

I have got to brag for a second...not about myself, believe me, it has nothing to do with me...but about my first daughter! Her reading teacher called me yesterday and told me she was going to start pulling Brooklyn out of her reg classroom for an advanced reading group. She told me most of the kindergartens start out reading at "A" level and by the time they finish kindergarten, all students should be reading at "C". She said there are only 5 students in the whole school who are beyond that, and Brooklyn is one of them. She said she is starting them out at level "F", but Brooklyn can read far beyond that - she just doesn't want to skip the other stuff that they learn in the in between levels (like about the index, table of contents, types of books, etc.). I didn't teach her to read. I did read to her nearly everyday (mostly because she begged me to) and let her play starfall.com (again because of the relentless begging) but mostly we watch too much TV and I felt like a slacker retired teacher that didn't work with my children enough on phonics, etc. She didn't herself...she loves language...she always has...from her complete sentence vocabulary at 9 months old, we have known that she just loves language and understands it somehow. What a smarty-pants. (And a cutie.)
